The nautical-themed Hotel Captain Cook offers a central downtown location three blocks from the Egan Convention Center in Anchorage. In addition to the upscale Crow’s Nest restaurant, there are three casual dining options. Meeting space includes the remarkable Quarter Deck, where the horizontally paneled walls were salvaged from the teak deck of the USS Colorado, and the hanging lamps were formerly speaking tubes on the famous battleship. Wireless Internet access is complimentary throughout the hotel.

The Hotel Captain Cook offers sumptuously appointed guestrooms in three towers (10, 17, and 19 stories)—all accessible via elevators within the lobby. Large windows that open provide views of Cook Inlet or the Chugach Mountains. All rooms have ceiling fans, but no air conditioning. Wireless Internet access is complimentary. Beds feature down duvets and pillows. Bathrooms offer separate vanity areas and thick bathrobes. Turndown service is provided nightly. Getting there: Taxi fare from the airport to the Hotel Captain Cook is approximately $15. At the South (domestic) Terminal, the taxi stand is at the ground-transportation area outside baggage claim. At the North (international) Terminal, the stand is directly outside the lobby. Rental cars are available online.
Getting around: The downtown core is laid out in a grid. Numbered avenues run east-west. Streets with letter names run north-south, with A Street at the east end. Most downtown destinations are within a 10-block area, easily walkable when the weather permits.
People Mover buses (less than $5) serve the city, although weekend service is limited. A stop is one block from the hotel. For excursions beyond downtown, rental cars offer the most convenience and flexibility. Rental cars are available online.
